Work Groups

We have established seven work groups, each with a specific focus and objective, to develop a comprehensive and multistep approach towards electric mobility in Zambia. These work groups collaborate to drive innovation, promote sustainable practices, and create a conducive environment for the adoption and growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and related infrastructure.

Adoption Enablers (Incentives, Policy, Regulation & Standards):

The Adoption Enablers work group is dedicated to advocating for the implementation of the right incentives, policies, regulations, and standards. It works closely with government bodies and relevant stakeholders to create a business-friendly environment that supports the widespread adoption of electric mobility. By developing favourable frameworks, this work group aims to encourage investment, remove barriers, and ensure the long-term success of the EV industry.

Charging Infrastructure

The Charging Infrastructure work group recognizes the critical role of a robust and widespread charging network in the success of electric mobility. It focuses on planning and implementing strategies to expand and enhance the charging infrastructure across Zambia. This includes the deployment of charging stations in urban areas, along highways, and in other key locations, ensuring convenient access to charging facilities for EV owners.

Technology

The Technology work group is at the forefront of exploring and promoting advancements in electric mobility technologies. They stay abreast of the latest developments in EV technology, including battery advancements, charging solutions, and energy management systems. By collaborating with industry experts and technology providers, this work group aims to facilitate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and drive innovation within the electric mobility sector.

Research & Development (Academic & Workforce Programs)

The Research & Development work group focuses on fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge creation in the field of electric mobility. It collaborates with academic institutions and industry experts to develop and support research projects that advance EV technologies, sustainable practices, and relevant academic programs. Additionally, It aims to create workforce development initiatives that equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required for the growing electric mobility industry.

Electric Motor Vehicles & Cycles

The Electric Motor Vehicles & Cycles work group is dedicated to the development, manufacturing, and adoption of electric motor vehicles and two-wheeled electric transportation options. It works closely with automotive manufacturers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers to promote the production and adoption of electric cars, buses, trucks, and motorcycles. By fostering a supportive ecosystem for electric motor vehicles and cycles, this work group aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation.

Battery Storage

Recognizing the significance of battery technology in the electric mobility sector, the Battery Storage work group focuses on research and development in this area. It explores advancements in battery storage technology, including improved energy density, longer lifespan, and faster charging capabilities. This work group also advocates for sustainable battery manufacturing practices and proper disposal and recycling of batteries to minimize environmental impact.

Supply Chain Attraction and Innovation

The Supply Chain Attraction and Innovation work group plays a crucial role in promoting the development of the electric vehicle value chain in Zambia. It works to attract investments and facilitate the establishment of local manufacturing capabilities, from mining and processing minerals for EV batteries to the production of electric vehicles. By strengthening the supply chain, this work group aims to create economic opportunities, generate employment, and foster innovation within the electric mobility sector.

Through the collective efforts of these work groups, ZEMIA strives to create a sustainable and thriving electric mobility ecosystem in Zambia. By addressing various aspects of electric mobility, from policy and infrastructure to technology and manufacturing, ZEMIA aims to position Zambia as a leader in electric mobility and contribute to a greener and more prosperous future.
